ZendoNew construction project
The BergZendo is located at an altitude of 900 meters in the Hohe Wand Nature Park, just one hour from Vienna. It is the Zen and seminar center of BodhidharmaZendo, which was founded in 1979 and is a member of the Austrian Buddhist Religious Society. Over the past eight years, we have invested a lot of time and energy in making BergZendo the much-visited jewel that it is today.
But although the center has beds for 40 people, the meditation room only holds half that many.

More space for practice
In order to exploit the potential of this outstanding location, we are planning to build a new meditation hall: the ZendoNeu!This will underline BergZendo’s position as one of the most important Zen centers in Austria.And it has the potential to establish itself as an important place of spiritual practice throughout Europe.
The majority of the construction costs are already covered thanks to a generous donation – we are so close to our goal!
Planning
With the support of an architect, we have drawn up a professional construction plan for the ZendoNeu that can be approved by the authorities.
With an area of 100m², the room is about twice the size of our current Zendo. In addition, a spacious storage room, an anteroom with a checkroom and a kitchenette will be attached to the new Zendo.
Good views
From the southeast-facing veranda (pictured left), you can enjoy the view of the sunrise and the surrounding landscape. The veranda will be accessible from both the main house and the new zendo. A planned staircase will also provide access to and from the garden.
